Frequently asked questions.

  • Therapy is an excellent way to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe and supportive environment. You do not have to be struggling with a specific problem or have a mental health diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Many people come to therapy to gain a better understanding of themselves, improve their relationships, and work through life transitions.

Therapy can help you develop new coping strategies, increase self-awareness, and gain insights that can lead to personal growth and a more fulfilling life. If you're not sure if therapy is right for you, I encourage you to schedule a free consultation call with me to discuss your needs and goals.

  • Consultation calls are an opportunity for us to get to know each other, for me to understand your needs and goals, and for you to get a sense of what it would be like to work with me. During this call, you can ask any questions you may have about the therapy process, and we can collaboratively decide if we would be a good fit for working together. You can book a consultation call here.

  • At this time, I only offer virtual sessions through a secure video platform.

  • The fee for a 50 minute session is $150.

Longer or shorter sessions can be discussed and accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

  • Psychotherapy is unfortunately not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health benefit plans do cover psychotherapy services, so I encourage you to check with your insurance provider to see if you have coverage.

  • Yes, I believe that everyone should have access to therapy, regardless of their financial situation. That's why I offer a number of sliding scale spots for clients who may need a reduced rate. If you are interested in exploring this option, please don't hesitate to bring it up during our initial consultation call. We can work together to find a rate that works for you based on your income and financial needs. It's important to me that you feel comfortable and supported throughout the therapy process, and financial concerns should not be a barrier to accessing the care you need.

  • I accept credit card and e-transfer as forms of payment. Once payment is received, you will receive an email receipt. If you have any questions or concerns about payment, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, the therapist. In therapy, we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how they are connected to your past experiences, relationships, and current life circumstances. We create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can express yourself freely and feel heard and understood. Through our work together, we will also explore your values and whether your current functioning aligns with these values. We'll examine what might be preventing you from being your most authentic self, and work together to identify ways to overcome these obstacles. By delving into these areas, we can help you gain greater self-awareness and understanding, and support you in making positive changes towards living a more authentic and fulfilling life. Therapy can be challenging at times, but it can also be empowering and transformative.

  • Choosing the right therapist is an important decision and finding a good fit can greatly impact the effectiveness of therapy. It's important to feel comfortable and safe with your therapist, and to be able to trust and connect with them. The therapeutic relationship is a key component in determining if it's a good fit. In fact, research shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in achieving positive outcomes in therapy.

It's important to consider factors such as the therapist's approach, experience, and areas of specialization, and whether these align with your needs and preferences. Ultimately, the decision to start and continue therapy is yours, and I want you to feel empowered and confident in your choice.

  • It's difficult to predict how long therapy will take or how many sessions you will need as each individual and their needs are unique. Some clients may see significant progress in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. As therapy progresses, we will regularly evaluate and discuss your goals and progress to ensure we're on track and make adjustments as needed. It's important to note that therapy is a collaborative process and your level of engagement and commitment to the process will also influence the duration and outcome of therapy. Ultimately, our goal is to help you develop the tools, insights, and skills needed to live a more fulfilling life, at a pace that works for you.

  • This depends on your individual needs and circumstances. During the initial sessions, we will work together to determine the frequency that works best for you. Typically, clients attend therapy sessions on a weekly basis, especially in the beginning stages of therapy, as this is when the therapeutic relationship is built. As progress is made, sessions can be spaced out. Ultimately, the frequency of therapy sessions is up to you and can be adjusted as needed throughout the course of therapy. It is important to attend therapy sessions regularly to maintain momentum and achieve your therapeutic goals.
